This is a beautiful pair of Victorian silver-gilt tazzas on pedestal bases. All pieces are sterling silver and gold-plated, with fine quality hand-chased decoration of various fruits within the fluted bodies. They are perfect for serving desserts or fruits.

The centre of each piece is engraved with the crest of a raised forearm holding a dagger and the motto VIRTUTE ET VALORE - 'By Virtue and Valour'. The crest is that of Noble of Ardmore and Ardardan Noble. Given the date of hallmarking, these tazza were undoubtedly owned by Sir Andrew Nobel of Ardmore & Ardardan Nobel, the 1st Baronet of Dunbartonshire (1831-1915).

Educated at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, he was commissioned as an officer with the Royal Regiment of Artillery. In 1881 Andrew was appointed as a Companion of the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (CB) and advanced to Knight Commander of its Civil Division (KCB) in 1893. He was created a baronet in 1902.
