Tremendous Victorian silver-plated serving tray, suitable for tea and coffee services, buffet or as a drinks tray. The surface is beautifully and profusely hand-chased in fine detail with an array of lattice panels, foliage, floral-work and scrolls. The border and handles are adorned with applied cast and hand chased French gadroon, shell and leaf patterns and the decoration is of a quality that can be found on top-quality silver trays.

The handwork that has gone into the making and decorating of this tray would take many days to complete, and the engraving along would cost more than £3000 to produce today.

Thomas Wilkinson founded his business in 1832 with the trade mark Pelican Silver. In 1840 the firm was active at High Street, Sheffield advertising as
By Special Appointment to Her Majesty (Queen Victoria).
