Bespoke: sterling silver stork & baby model

Bespoke: sterling silver stork & baby model

Among our most endearing commissions, this model of a stork carrying a newborn baby was commissioned by a couple to celebrate the birth of their first grandchild. It is a piece that beautifully represents the enduring myth of storks delivering babies and, although no one knows the origin of this myth, we were proud nonetheless to represent it in this elegant fashion.

Initials drawings were approved by the client before translating them into a hand-modelled 3-D wax which in turn was used to create a mould that would take the silver. In the traditional, centuries-old, technique of lost wax casting, the molten silver is poured into the mould and once the silver solidifies the wax is melted and drained away. The heavy-gauge model of the stork and baby was then carefully hand chased to produce the lifelike features and detail of both.

This is an example of a private commission. Please get in touch to discuss your own ideas; we can make anything in silver.
