A George III oak coopered barrel, decorated with the Royal Coat of Arms, circa 1800
REF: 3786
The oak staves held in place by four iron hoops, bung to rear.
Very similar examples attributed to the English Royal Navy, with the letter 'R' and 'N' above the Royal Coat of Arms are recorded. It is likely this barrel would have been used on a naval ship, to store gun powder or grog (diluted rum).
