A Henry VIII carved oak portrait panel, circa 1520
REF: 5079
Carved with the bust of a female, facing to sinister, wearing a coif with decorated brim, her simple garment with narrow collar, within a crimson silk-velvet covered frame, dimensions overall: height 31.8cm, width 29.5cm
The depiction of pronounced breasts is extremely rare for this period. Unlike the more common 'Romayne' type portrait panels, where a Renaissance inspired classical bust is carved within a laurel wreath/roundel, here an attempt is made at realism, albeit with emphasis on female 'attributes'
- Height 22.7 cm / 9"
- Width 20 cm / 8"
