Originally part of a spectacular bed hanging, the long, narrow fragment worked in worsted wools in subtle shades of brown and blue in a variety of stitches on the original cotton/linen twill ground, designed with enormous exotic leaves issuing from sturdy branches, slender tendrils bearing smaller leaves and flowers, now adapted as a long hanging or table runner, the embroidery edged with a raw silk and linen fringed braid of similar date, all supported on a 19th century linen backing, visible crewel work dimensions: 133cm long, 19cm wide
