A George III miniature armchair, East Anglia, circa 1800

REF: 4115

Ash and elm, with rush seat.

Having a bold, solid vasiform splat, and gentle serpentine cresting on square-section tapering uprights, the dished and chamfered arms with turned rear ends and boss capped block terminals, on waisted-turned front supports, original rush seat, the turned tapering front legs with pad feet, joined by a baluster-turned fore rail, with hand-drawn rear legs, side and rear stretchers.

The elegant turnings, including the pad feet, are a rare feature of this miniature chair compared to the rather crude, straight-lined construction often found on similar vernacular examples.
