A rare 19th century perpetual calendar clock by American clock maker Seth Thomas in an arched mahogany case with two dials dated 1879.
The top dial indicates the time and the lower indicates the date. The spring-driven clock movement strikes on the hour. The calendar is perpetual, adjusting itself for short months and also leap years. The month and day of the week are on drums behind the lower dial, appearing through apertures in the dial. The internal door has the original label with the hand-written date of manufacturer, 1897.. A rare and unusual timepiece.
Seth Thomas (1785-1859) was an American clock maker renowned for founding the Seth Thomas Clock Company in 1813. His clocks, known for their precision and craftsmanship, became a symbol of American timekeeping excellence.
