This is one of the rarest of clocks manufactured by the August Schatz & Sohns company of Germany.The clock has a 4 jewel movement (one of the higher end movements in any of the ship's clocks) and is running well and properly striking the ship's bells. The case does have one crack which is not unusual for these clocks as they are caused by a flaw in the manufacturing process. The crack is to the base of the case and cannot be seen unless viewed directly from below. The bells may be silenced with a lever on the front.
