Silver vesta case
Silver vesta case
6666
A turn of the century silver bright cut engraved vesta case. Hallmarked for Chester 1901.
Vesta cases were small, pocket-sized containers used to store matches, particularly "Vestas"-early friction matches popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Typically made from metal, silver, or brass, they protected matches from moisture and had a rough surface or striker for igniting them. These cases were commonly carried by smokers and outdoor workers.
Many were ornately designed or engraved, making them collectible today. Some even featured advertisements or personal monograms, adding historical charm.
