A late Victorian rose gold hinged bangle mounted with a lucky horseshoe, circa 1890.

Horseshoes are considered lucky due to their historical and symbolic associations. Traditionally, their U-shape is thought to catch and hold good fortune, while the open end allows it to pour out blessings. Made of iron, horseshoes were believed to ward off evil spirits and protect homes. Additionally, their association with horses, symbols of strength and vitality, further enhanced their status as lucky charms.
